Its winter in India and you don’t particularly like the heat. Missing the swiss alps? Then Kashmir is for you. For the adventure tripper, Gulmarg is where all the skiing and snowboarding happens.
Part 1:
Kashmir Alpine is a ski shop run by 2 locals and a canadian who supports their cause – winter tourism. In 2000 an Israeli/ Canadian snowboard adventurer , Ido Neiger, came to Gulmarg for a ski vacation and decided to make it his 2nd home. Since then Ido has been busy in helping to develop Gulmarg ski resort and bring snowboarding to the attention of the young generation of Kashmir.
Today Kashmir Alpine Adventures offers winter as well as summer adventure sports retreats.
Part 2:
SkiHimalaya is a business venture founded by Australian Peter Robinson and Kashmiri colleague Bashir Ahmed. Ski Himalaya is the primary “wintertime” sales and marketing agent for a number of Gulmarg’s leading hotels.
Triple Winter Olympian Steve Lee writes : “It’s everywhere as good as anywhere I’ve skied in the world. It’s kind of like heli-skiing with a gondola – you know you go up – you pick your line – look at a ridge say we might do that one this time – we’ll save that one for tomorrow – and away you go”
Part3:
If you don’t fancy the adventure sport thingy, you could do the touristy thingy and pose with the ever smiling ‘happy-to-meet-white-women’ indian army
