Lansdowne, named after another Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne is situated in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. It does not see as many tourists as a nainital or dehradun. However, it does not fall behind any other admired destinations in offering scenic beauty. In fact, if you want a quiet, peaceful and close to nature getaway then Lansdowne is the place to be. Best visitied in the summer months, Winters can be chilly with snowfall and below minus temperature. Ideal getaway for all delhi nature junkies, honeymooners, writers, thinkers and folks who want no company.
Although there are a few staying options close to the market area, we recommend the state run GMVN tourist bungalow. It is located on a scenic vantage point called Tip-in-Top. It is an old building from British era. It has a nice café as well. However, the rooms apart from cottage rooms are not well maintained and reflect the age it was built in. Staying there can prove to be a little inconvenient but considering the serene surrounding and the feel of the time passed by makes it worth it. Also, this bungalow is slightly away from the market (approx. 2kms) and other popular destinations.
